The St. Louis Society Youth Program serves children between the ages of six (6) to eighteen (18), or up to twenty-one (21) if still in school, with a physical or developmental disability.
Our Community Recreation Program provides a variety of activities available most weekends, twelve months of the year. The activities selected are designed to provide children with physical and developmental disabilities opportunities to experience all of the wonderful "children’s activities" available in the St. Louis area, i.e., the Zoo, Magic House, Science Center, baseball games and many other activities that allow them to become part of the St. Louis community, to be outdoors, and to add fun and friendship to their lives.
The activities are divided up into two programs:
Each program will conduct three activities a month and participants will have the opportunity to attend two of the three activities per month. A monthly newsletter is sent to the parents with details on the activities. The newsletter is also available on the website under The Source tab.
The After School Program is held four days per week at Gateway Michael School and serves fourteen children each day. The main goal of the After School Program is to encourage the students to have fun with their friends and feel comfortable in an environment where their abilities are highlighted. We provide a ninety (90) minute recreational opportunity for children to build sporting skills, participate in art therapy, go on field trips, and build self esteem. We ensure participation by providing free transportation to all.
Sports Camp is normally held the last week of May or the first full week in June. The 2013 Sports Camp will be May 28th through May 31st at the North County Recreational Complex. Children spend four days learning new sports and having a week of non-stop fun! The overall goal of Sports Camp is to enrich the lives of children with physical and/or developmental disabilities by giving them the opportunity to experience a variety of recreational and sports activities.
2013 will mark the 30th anniversary of the St. Louis Society's Sports Camp. We hope that you will join us for this very special week of camp.
