ELIGIBILITY

Children age six (6) to eighteen (18), (or up to twenty-one (21) if still in school), with a physical disability that includes, but are not limited to: Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, Amputation, Heart Defects, etc., are eligible to participate in youth programming.

Our Community Recreation Program provides a variety of activities available throughout the week and during the weekend, twelve months of the year. The activities selected are designed to provide disabled children opportunities to experience all of the wonderful "children’s activities" available in the St. Louis area, i.e., the Zoo, Magic House, Science Center, baseball games and many other activities that allow them to become part of the St. Louis community, to be outdoors, and to add fun and friendship to their lives.

The After School Program is held four days per week at Gateway Michael School and serves ten children each day. The main goal of the After School Program is to encourage the students to improve their quality of life through physical exercise. We provide a sixty (60) minute recreational opportunity for children to build sporting skills, learn exercises to strengthen muscles and to improve coordination, improve wheelchair mobility, build self esteem and learn the importance of wellness in their lives. We ensure participation by providing free transportation to all.

Sports Camp is normally held the first week in June.  This year’s camp will be held June 2 through June 6, 2008 at the Wayne C. Kennedy South County Recreational Complex. Children spend a week learning new sports and having a week of non-stop fun! The overall goal of Sports Camp is to enrich the lives of children with physical disabilities by giving them the opportunity to experience a variety of recreational and sports activities. Transportation is provided at no charge to all children attending camp.
